Mangalore is one of the prime towns in Karnataka, a state in India.  This town got its name as “Mangalore”, which in local language means, the dwelling place of goddess Mangaladevi. This town initially gained importance due to presence of the local port on the Arabian Sea and therefore played a significant part on the Malabar Coast. Due to the proximity to the Sea, the town possesses hot and humid climate. This town is accountable for India's exports to Gulf countries, primarily in the items such as coffee as well as cashews. Mangalore is regarded as the cleanest town in the state of Karnataka.

Mangalore has a picturesque beach, due to its clean shore and exquisite light house. The meeting of the river Gurupara and the Netravathi Rivers adjoins the shore of Mangalore. There is also an unparalleled event, which is noted as the Kambala or buffalo event that takes place in this shore. Other local attractions comprise of a Manjunatha Temple, Jumma Masjid, Mangala Devi temple, and St Aloysius Chapel.

There are many tourist destinations alongside the coastline of Mangalore as well. You can enjoy the beautiful sceneries of the Malpe and Maravanthe seashores. There is a well-known temple called the Mookambika temple in Kollur, which is located 140 kilometers from the shore of Mangalore. Approximately 75 kilometers off from the seaside of Mangalore, there is a most sought after town called Dharmasthala, which is celebrated for being the place of dwelling of Lord Manjunatha.

Prominent Beaches around Mangalore

Someshwar Beach: This beach is remarkably original, and has an alluring view from the tip of the ridge. However, another attraction of this beach is the presence of a temple. Worshipers generally stop over to extend their prayers.

Panambur Beach: It is an exquisite beach, where it is common to find people delighting over a glass of sugarcane juice along with churmuri and beholding the sunset. Particularly during the weekends, this seashore is jam-packed. It is very near to Mangalore.

Mangalore is also well known for its Udupi cuisine and Konkani cuisine, which predominantly concentrates on sea food and Dosa. You can also find authentic udupi brahmin cuisines in most restaurants. All the dishes are flavoured with either coconut scrapings or coconut milk.

A trip to Mangalore will be an unforgettable one; especially for sea food admirers.
