The city of Mandi is located in the district of Mandi in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. This picturesque locale is also a seat of approximately 81 temples within its limits. The city of Mandi that is flanked by the waters of the Beas River is also known widely for its historical past of splendor. There are several places that you will get to see and explore while you are here.

 

If you would like to see the temples of the city you can start by visiting the Shyama Kali temple that is situated at an elevated ground. This is also known as the Tarna temple. Then there is the Bhima Kali temple. This is built on the banks of the Beas River and was a family deity of the Bushahar rulers of Mandi.

 

The Ardhnareshwar temple is one that is dedicated to an incarnation of Lord Shiva where he is in a form of man and woman. It is a depiction of the unity of man and woman as a form of life and in the cycle of birth. These are only some of the names of the various others that stand in Mandi till today as evidence of art and worship. 

 

The temples of Mandi are all dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Kali. There is a high level of architecture that can be seen in these temples with a great deal of finery and intricate artistry of sculptures.

 

The district of Mandi is also a place of great picturesque locales and scenic beauty. There is the beautiful Rewalsar Lake that is square in shape and is well known for its floating island. The lake waters are worshipped by the people and held with reverence. You can also see another lake by the name of Prashar Lake. This has a beautiful setting in the valley and resembles a cup like view of blue waters.

 

You can also take a trip to Barot on the Mandi to Pathankot highway. This is a scenic place that is a frequent spot for picnics. There are facilities for fishing and traveling by a ropeway. There are plenty of beautiful locations in close proximity where excursions, trekking and hiking can also be carried out. Take a trip to places like Sundernagar, Chidi, Tatta Paani and Janjehli among others and you will be pleasantly surprised.

 

There is an easy communication available to Mandi. You can travel by airways with the nearest airport at Bhuntar. The nearest railway station is at Kiratpur. There is also a good network of roads available from all major cites of the region. There are several hotels and resorts available in the region that presents various types of budget accommodations. You can indulge in luxury facilities and even lesser expensive hotels and private accommodations.
