If you want to transport yourself into a completely different world then the most ideal place is Ganapatipule. A captivating village in the Ratnagiri district of the southwest Maharashtra, the place has an importance of its own, its being the birthplace of a great leader Lokmanya Tilak. It is a serene village, where you will come across a spectacular beach, natural and unspoiled as ever. Travelling by road will truly be an experience of a lifetime. The vast stretches of greenery, mangroves, coconut palms, the mud roads, the roofed houses with clean courtyard and temples contributes in giving a quaint touch to the place. On your very entrance to the place you will inevitably be transported to another world; a world away from the world of reality, of boredom and of worries and tensions. It is a great place to rejuvenate yourself after a hectic week and the magical splendour of the place will enraptured you for days to come.

There are a number of tourist places of attractions in Ganapatipule and it is frequented by a large number of tourists every year. Most prominent among them are the Jaigad Fort, Jaigad Lighthouse, Ganapatipule Beach, Swayambhu Ganpati Temple. Thebaw Palace, Malgund, Pawas, Velneshwar etc.  

The Jaigad Fort is perched on a cliff at the commencing of the Sangameshwar River. It is situated at a distance of 35 kms from Ganapatipule. The fort renders an engaging view of the sea.

The Ganapatipule beach along the Konkan coast is one of the most impressive sea beaches, the charm of which originates from the blue waters of the sea, the white sands and the coconut palms which add to its beauty and bounty.

Constructed in the year 1910-1911 the Thebaw Palace is associated with a legendary tale. It was built for an exiled king and queen of Burma who resided in this palace from 1911 until there death in the year 1916.

Malgund is a small village situated at a distance of 1 km from Ganapatipule and the birthplace of the famous Marathi poet, Keshavsoot.

Pawas shoot into prominence when it became the dwelling place of a great spiritual leader, Swami Swaroopanand. He is known to have influenced and inspired many Maharahstraians. The very residence of this spiritual leader has now been converted into an Ashram.

The Swayambhu Ganpati Temple houses an idol believed to have been naturally made out of white sand.  The temple is situated at a distance of 20 km from the Ratnagiri town. At sunrise one can hear the rhythmic beat of the nagaras. There is an atmosphere of peace and calmness all around.

The winter season being the most pleasant, it is an ideal month to make a trip to Ganapatipule. You can get there either through road, railway or airway. Belgaum is the nearest airport situated at a distance of 299 kms. The nearest railway station is at a distance of 35 kms; Konkan Railway Bhoke. You can also travel by road which is more preferable. It has well paved road with neighbouring places like Mumbai, Pune and Belgaum.
