Yogi Adityanath Biography

Mahanth Yogi Adityanath is a priest, politician and current Chief Minister of the state of Uttar Pradesh. He was a Member of Parliament from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh on the ticket of Bharatiya Janata Party and has been in media for his controversial statements. He was born on June 5, 1972 in a Rajput family of Uttrakhand but lives in Gorakhpur permanently. He has a B. Sc. degree from Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Shrinagar, Pauri, Garhwal (Now Uttrakhand). 

Yogi Adityanath took charge of Gorakhnath Math a Hindu temple in Gorakhpur as head priest after his father Mahant Avaidyanath died in September 2014. Yogi Adityanath is founder priest of Hindu Yuva Vahini which is nationalist and cultural group of young Hindu people. Besides working for Hindus Yogi Adityanath has been very active against corruption and Mafia spread in eastren UP. He has worked constantly for the upliftment of the infrasturcture of the area since 1998.

Adityanath the youngest member elected for the 12th Lok Sabha at 26 in 1998 has been relected in all general elections held for the Lok Sabha up to 2014. Incidentally, he led a purification drive in 2005 that was about conversing the Christians back to Hinduism and succeeded in converting some of them in a district of U.P.

Yogi Adityanath at many instaces has had row with local and state level administration and if inner sources are to be believed having no good relations with his own party for his controversial statements. He wants his party to take sterner steps in favor of Hindus. Adityanath in fact has gone against the party whip on many ocassions including the Women's Reservation Bill.

It was in the month of March 2011, a documentary film named "Saffron War the Radicalization of Hinduism" had accused Yogi Adityanath of breaking communal disharmony through a Virat Hindustan rally in rural UP.

 

It was reported that Adityanath has praised the US President Donald Trump's decision to enact a ban on citizens from 7 Muslim-majority countries entering the United States and has called for India to adopt similar policies to tackle terrorism.
