Yogaraj Bhat Biography

Yogaraj Bhat is a Kannada film maker and a popular lyricist. He is also known as a screenwriter. Mungaru Male, released in 2006 is his most noted work, where he co-scripted the movie aside Preetam Gubbi. He wrote a few songs for the movies as well. The film recorded the highest box-office collections in the history of Kannada cinema. The movie was screened for more than a year and currently holds the record for the longest running film at a Kannada multiplex. The movie won Karnataka State Film Awards and Filmfare Award for Best Film – Kannada. As a director and screenwriter, other super hit movies are Manasaare, Pancharangi, Paramathma and Drama. He is the producer of 2011 movie, Lifeu Ishtene which ran for more than 100 days. Now he is the top most lyricist of the Kannada Film Industry and owns hundreds of super hit songs.

He has been a great fan of Kurosawa during his college days and loved to watch foreign classics like Coppolla’s The Godfather and Kurosawa’s Ran. Inspired by such world class movies, he reached Bangalore at the age of 22 in search of a job as a camera man. Bhat served as an assistant director under Girish Kasaravalli, V. Ravichandran, Sunil Kumar Desai and B Suresh during the first phase. He worked as assistant for about 8 years. His first directorial experience was a television serial, Chakra. His first Kannada movie as a director was Mani, noted for the best performances of supporting actors, Umashree and Rangayana Raghu.

His second movie Ranga SSLC (2004) was only an average grosser. For the next two years he did not direct any movie and during this period, he learnt himself correcting mistakes. During this period he made corporate films and documentaries. Then he got the idea of Mungaaru Male and took one year to complete its script. It turned to be an all-time blockbuster breaking all records and placed Bhat among the most successful film makers of the recent times. As a lyricist, a few of his movies are Paramathma, Mungaru Male, Gaalipata, Hudugaru, Manasaare, Circus, Jackie, Junglee, Inthi Ninna Preethiya, Pancharangi and Kiladi Kitti.
