Viveki Rai Biography

Viveki Rai is a noted of Hindi & Bhojpuri literature who is associated with Indian literature since pre-independent period. He contributed to Hindi and Bhojpuri literature in the forms of literary criticism, Novels, Essays and Poetry. He criticized Indian Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi in 1975 through his novel Katra bi Aarzoo. Sonamati is his most popular novel and he is also known as a popular essayist. He has been honoured with Mahapandit Rahul Sankrityayan Award in 2001 and Yash Bharati Award in 2006 for his outstanding contributions to Hindi literature. Mahatma Gandhi Samman and Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Award of Srimath Kashi are the other major honours received by him in the recent times.

 

Amangalhari, Ke Kahala Chunari Rangala and Guru-Grih Gayau Padhan Raghurai are the novels published in Bhojpuri language while Meri Terah Kahaniyan, Narendra Kohli Apratim Katha Yatri, Namami Gramam, Chali Fagunhat Baure Aam, Jivan Agyan Ka Ganith Hai, Mangal Bhavan, Purush Puran, Dehri ke paar, Manbodh Master Ki Diary, Gamvai Gandh Gulab, Mere Shuddha Shraddhey, Sawalon Ke Samne, Kalatit, Gunga Jahaj and Samar Shesh Hai are among his famous Hindi novels. He is also known as Hindi Lalit Nibandhakaar.

 

Rai was born on November 19, 1924 in Sonavani, Ghazipur of Uttar Pradesh. He contributed more than 50 books to Hindi and Bhojpuri literature. Kalpana Aur Hindi Sahitya is his literary criticism in Hindi published in 1999. He regularly publishes articles and essays for many magazines. He published more than 1500 articles in different magazines. He got the prestigious Prem Chandra Award on his work Sona Maati.
