Vitthalbhai Patel Biography

Vitthalbhai Patel was a lyricist associated with Bollywood, best known for penning lyrics for the popular song – Jhoot Bole Kauwa Katte of Bobby, which earned him a Filmfare nomination for best lyricist for the year 1973. Patel was also a senior politician belonging to Indian National Congress and a social worker. He was a noted poet who wrote in Hindi and Bundeli and lived most of his lifetime in Sagar - his hometown, Madhya Pradesh. He passed away on 7 September 2013, aged 77. Patel was twice elected to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Sagar, and has served as a cabinet minister. He was a prominent congress leader in the state politics of Madhya Pradesh.

 

Vitthalbhai Patel was born in Saagar, MP on 21 May 1936. His education was completed at his hometown itself and he was active in political and social life in his hometown too. He penned lyrics for 55 Hindi film songs of which Bobby is most popular. The evergreen songs of the movie were penned by Patel, Anand Bakshi and Tulsi. Ajnabi Kaun Ho Tum of Sweekar Kiya Maine sung by Lata Mangeshkar is also a popular song penned by Patel. Kamai To Bahut Phir Bhi of Sweekar Kiya Maine, Jindagee Yeh Jindagee Do Ghadee Kee Jindagee and Tum Badi Khubsoorat Ho of Daulat, Jab Jab Jo Jo Hona Hai of Vishwanath etc are a few more popular songs.

 

He was one of the senior leaders of state politics. Got elected to the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, he has served as the cabinet minister of Shyama Charan Shukla, Motilal Vora and Arjun Singh. He also published 5 books of poetry collections. He passed away on 7 September 2013 after a prolonged illness, aged 75.
