Vinod Mehra Biography

Vinod Mehra was an actor of Bollywood during 70’s and 80’s, most remembered for the movie ‘Ghar’ paired opposite Rekha. During late 80’s, he became a producer and director. But due to his sudden death of heart attack when he was just 45, many of his projects were released after many years, completing with someone else. Gurudev starring Sri Devi and Rishi Kapoor is one such, where she handled double role similar to Chaal baaz. He has played the role of leading hero as well as supporting actor as well. A few of his best movies include Lal pathar, Nagin, Jurmaana, Ek Hi Raasta, Ye Kaisa Insaf, Sweekar Kiya Maine, Ek thi rita, Jaani Dushman, Amar prem, Swarg Narak, Bemisal, Anurod,  Kartavya, Elaan, Amar deep, Sajan Bina Suhagan, Khud-Daar, Anurag and Ghar.  Among his movies during the first phase of his career, supporting roles of Lal pathar and Amar prem are noted most and both these movies are milestones in Indian cinema. In a career spanning to about 2 decades or so, he has done about 100 movies.  

Vinod Mehra started his career as a child artist with the movie Raagni in 1958. He played the childhood role of Kishore Kumar in this movie. Then he played less significant movies for about a decade or so till he got his first movie as leading actor. The movie was Ek thi Rita, opposite Tanuja in 1971. Then a string of movies was released during the first half of 1970’s and he was paired opposite younger and new heroines of that time like Bindiya Goswami, Rekha, Mausmi Chatterjee and Yogeeta Bali. A few movies during this period include Anurag opposite Mausmi Chatterjee, Parde ke peeche opposite Yogeeta Bali and Elaam opposite Rekha. He was most successful with Rekha and Bindiya Goswami, with whom he was romantically linked with. Bindiya Goswami was his second wife and though reports were there that he has married Rekha secretly, years later Rekha denied those facts. He has married thrice.

Vinod Mehra’s daughter Sonia, from his first marriage has debut Bollywood with Victoria:203 in 2008. He has got Filmfare nominations in supporting roles for the movies, Anurodh, Bemisaal and Amar deep.
