Vincent Asokan Biography

Vincent Asokan is a noted character artist associated with Tamil cinema. He is the son of famous villain - S. A. Ashokan of Ulakam Chuttum Vaaliban fame. Following his father’s steps, Vincent is also known for portraying antagonist roles and has appeared in all the four south Indian film languages. Tamil film ‘Aai’ in 2004 marked his acting debut. The movie was directed by A. Venkatesh. He has also done a few lead roles, starting with Sila Nerangalil in 2008. He has done more than 30 movies as a villain. Thottal Thodarum, directed by Cable Shankar is one of his memorable performances as a villain where he delivered less dialogues and conveyed terror through menacing looks and expressions. He played an underworld don in the big budget movie – Thalaivan released in 2014.

He was born in Chennai to noted actor S. A. Ashokan and Mary Gnanam (Saraswathy). He lost his father in 1982 when he was quite young. He has one brother. Now he is married and has two sons. He completed Mechanical Engineering in Coimbatore and was into family business when he had a short stint in television. But later he decided to move to movies. He already was determined not to get offers in his father’s name. He made his film debut as a villain in 2004 Sarath Kumar movie – Aai. He shared screen space with the veteran actor Sathyaraj for his next release 6.2.

Thottijaya, Chanakya, Khakki, Thagapanswamy and Muruga just followed and he established himself as a villain on silver screen. In between he acted in Malayalam, Telugu and Kannada movies as well, mostly portraying negative roles. Later critics and audience compared his acting skills to his father’s. Among the villains of present film scene, Prakash Raj is his personal favourite. Sandamarutham, Thottal Thodarum and Killadi were his latest releases.
