Vinayan Biography

Vinayan is a film director of Malayalam cinema. He is popular for movies like - Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum, Karumadikkuttan, Dracula 2012, Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan, Pranaya nilavu, Anuragakottaram, Ullasapoongattu, Raghuvinte Swantham Rasiya, Dada Sahib, Harindran oru nishkalangan, Albhutha deep, Sathyam, Boy friend, Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum, Kalyana saugandhikam, Mr. Clean, War and love, Vellinakshatram, Aayiram Chirakulla Moham, Yakshiyum Njanum, Black cat, Kasi, Daivathinte Makan, Independence, Athisayan, Aakasha Ganga and Sipayi Lahala.

He is one among those directors of 90’s who gave more opportunities to superstar Dileep during his struggling period. The movies of these combinations mostly belong to humour category and were successful at box office too. In short, except a few, all comic movies of Dileep during 90’s were directed by Vinayan. Pranaya nilavu, Anuragakottaram, Ullasapoongattu and Kalyana Saudandhikam belong to this combination and still regarded as the best movies of Dileep during his struggling period in Malayalam cinema. He was given the second actor role in Mamootty’s movie, Rakshasa Rajavu too.

Not only that, Vinayan played a significant role in placing comedy actor Kalabhavan Mani as a talented actor who can handle series roles. Kalabhavan Mani was given the main hero role for the first time by Vinayan – Vasanthiyum lakshmiyum pinne jnanum and this movie is still regarded as the milestone movie of Kalabhavan Mani’s career. He played the role of blind in this movie. Vinayan remade the same movie in Tamil, titled Kaasi. He has also given another challenging role to Kalabhavan Mani. It was of a mentally retarded and physically challenged person role in the movie, Karumadi kuttan. He has done one similar movie with Jayasurya and Kavya Madhavan, the role of deaf and dumb lovers in the movie – Umapenninnu uriyaada payyan in the year 2001. He remade the same movie in Tamil too titled En maana vaanil.

He is known for all types of movies in Malayalam – From romantic comedies to horror and action movies, he has proved his versatility. Among all directors of Malayalam at present, he is the most successful director in making horror dramas. Akasa Ganga released in 1999 is always regarded as one among the best horror movies ever made on Malayalam cinema. He has done Dracula 2012 in 3D. Yakshiyum jnanum and Vellinakshatram with Taruni Sachdev in pivot role come under this list. Vinayan is also famous for making the movie ‘Albhutha deep’ with 300 dwarfs working for it. Guinness Pakru become Guiness book record holder of becoming the first dwarf to do play a full-length character in a movie. Albhutha Deep is the first Indian movie whose copyrights (remake) have been bought by Hollywood and very soon the movie will be released with Leonardo DiCaprio the leading star in the Hollywood version. The whole crew of 300 dwarfs will also work for this movie.
