Vinayak Chakravorty Biography 
Vinayak Chakravorty is a Delhi based film critic and journalist. He currently reviews films in Mail Today, where he works as Entertainment editor. He made his mark as a film critic while working with Hindustan Times, during the period 2001- 2006 before he joined Mail Today in 2006. He regularly appears in television film shows and radio programmes as a film critic who reviews newly released movies. Time Magazine has called him a "well-known film critic".
Chakravorty was born in Ranchi, now a part of Jharkhand. He hails from a middle-class Bengali family and was born to an engineer father and a school teacher mother. He is their single child. He studied at St. Xavier's School, Ranchi and graduated at St. Xavier's College, Ranchi with English Honours. While studying at school itself, Vinayak identified his passion to journalism. He was in the board of editors of his school magazine, Endeavour. After graduation, Chakravorty moved to Kolkata for a few years where he completed post-graduation diploma as the topper of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Yet he enrolled in Kolkata's Jadavpur University for a Masters course in Comparative Literature.
But soon after receiving an offer from Kolkata's leading English daily, The Telegraph, he quit the studies to start his career as a journalist in the year 1995. He joined as a Trainee Journalist and started off as a newsdesk Sub Editor. He also started writing as a feature writer for newspaper. In 1997, he left Kolkata to join The Pioneer newspaper in New Delhi. He joined as a Senior Feature Writer in the daily's Sunday section. During 1999-2001, he has a short stint to internet as well. Chakravorty joined Hindustan Times in January 2001 as film critic and feature journalist which placed him as a top film critic very soon.
