Vimala Raman Biography

Vimala Raman is an Indian film actress and model, who concentrates most on south Indian cinema. She debut big screen with Tamil movie, Poi in 2006 and later appeared in all south Indian languages and Hindi in lead role as well as supporting roles. In 2007, she played lead role opposite Mammootty in Nasrani, which was a box office hit. In 2008, she played lead role opposite Mohanlal in Malayalam movie, College Kumaran. She debut Bollywood with crime thriller, Mumbai mirror released in 2013. Her upcoming Hindi movie is Afra Tafri, where she works asideGovinda, Suniel Shetty, Yuvika Chaudhary and Arya Babbar and the movie is directed by Haadi Abrar.

 
Vimala Raman was born to a Tamil family in Sydney, Australia. Her parents are Pattabhi Raman and Santha Raman and both are south Indians. Her brother is a lawyer settled in USA. Her studies were completed at Sydney. She started practicing Bharatanatyam at the age of five.  In 2004 she won the Miss India Australia title as well as the Miss India Australia Cyber queen title and following her success, she decided to try her luck in movies. She moved to India in 2006 and debut with Tamil movie, Poi where she played lead role opposite Uday Kiran.


Though she was asked to change her name, she believed that her name is her identity and decided to keep her original name itself. The following year, she debut Malayalam with Time, where she worked aside Suresh Gopi and Padmapriya Janakiraman. Later she appeared in many Malayalam movies in lead roles like Nasrani, Collge Kumaran, Pranayakaalam and Romeo. She played supporting role in Blessy’s Calcutta News. She was the lead heroine of Telugu movie - Ghayam 2 where she was paired opposite  Jagapathi Babu.
