Viju Khote Biography

Viju Khote is an actor of Hindi and Marathi cinema who has worked as a character artist in more than 300 films. He is an active stage actor as well who works for theatre. Among his movies, his role in the landmark movie Sholay needs a special mention. The character role he played in the movie was deceit Kalia. The dialogue told by Amjat Khan “Tera kya hoga Kalia” became so popular that a movie was later made in the name Kalia in which Amitabh Bachchan played the lead and Amjat Khan – the villain. Perhaps it was the most popular dialogue of the movie and will surely list among top 10 dialogues of Hindi movies all times. The reply of Kalia to this dialogue done by Viju Khote also became so popular - Sardar maine aapka namak khaya hai. His character role was brief in the movie, yet it’s one among the most memorable performances of an actor in brief role in Indian cinema. He is also popular for the dialogue - "Galti se mistake hogaya" of Andaz apna apna. He has been seen portraying numerous characters in humour sense and comedy on Indian celluloid.   

Viju Khote is the younger brother of character artist – Sobha Khote. Their father Nandu Khote was a noted stage actor and in silent movies, whose sister-in-law was actress Durga Khote. His most popular sitcom was ‘Zabaan Sambhalke’ on DD Metro in 1993. Sobha Khote also played a leading role in this popular sitcom.

As an actor, his role as Kalia in Sholay is the most memorable one. He was most recently seen in the blockbuster hit Golmaal3. His other movies include - Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya, Khiladi 420, Paying Guest (2009), Khushboo (2008), Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge (2010), Viruddh... Family Comes First, Insan, Sharaarat, Aag, Mela, Pukar and Afzana pyar ka. A few of his earliest movies are Tapasya, Insaniyat, Shareef badshah, Rampur ka laxman, Jeene ki raah, Anokhi raat, Gawaar, Pagla kahi ka, Kurbani, Karz and Jaltha badan.
