Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam Biography 
Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam is a leading Carnatic vocalist from south India, who has been performing for the last three decades or so. She is a researcher of music as well, and has published her findings as one book titled, "Apoorva Kriti Manjari" in 2007. The book included a collection of twenty rare compositions of the Trinity of Carnatic Music. She also holds a doctorate in music and is a disciple of S. Rajam. She has also served as a visiting professor at Duke University, North Carolina in 2010 teaching the subject, 'An Introduction to Indian Music'.
She started training in Carnatic music at the age of 5. She belongs to a family with musical heritage. She had a unique grasping power, and learnt musical nuisances at a younger age. She was initiated to music by K. Padmanabhan. She performed her first stage concert at the age of 12. Since then she has been performing for more than three decades, apart from her research works on music. She also got opportunity to learn from S. Rajam, T. R. Subramaniam and V. R. Krishnan, and currently she teaches many students as well.
She completed her PhD in Music, Annamalai University in 2011. She got opportunity to perform at the prestigious Swati thirunal Sangeetolsavam conducted by Kerala Sangeeta Nataka academy in 2002. She has got opportunity to perform at many music festivals across India and abroad. Sangeet Alankar in 1987 given by Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, New Delhi and Sangeet Shiromani in 1982 given by Music Faculty of Delhi University are the major honours received by her. She is also a recipient of several scholarships for her talent. She is a recipient of M.S Subbulakshmi Award instituted by Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai in the year 2010. She has also released a few albums.
