Vijaya Narasimha Biography

Vijaya Narasimha was a popular lyricist of Kannada film industry during its golden period, who has over 4000 film songs to his credit. His association with director S. R. Puttanna Kanagal and music director Vijaya Bhaskar formed the magic trio of timelss music in the golden period of Kannada film music industry. "Ee Dehadinda Dooranaade" for the 1956 Rajkumar starrer Ohileshwara was his first break to Film music. Associated with films since mid-1950s, he stayed in the industry till mid-1990s, though was not very active in the 1990s. He passed away in 2001 aged 74. During his last days, he was active with devotional songs and even wrote songs three days before his death. He died due to cardiac arrest.

 

He was born in 1927. He got associated with film music in the year 1956 with the song - "Ee Dehadinda Dooranaade" for Ohileshwara. Later he teamed up with director S. R. Puttanna Kanagal and music director Vijaya Bhaskar to give many ever green songs to Kannada film industry. He became popular for his meaningful lyrics of Bharata bhushira mandira sundari of Upasane, Panchama veda premada nada of Gejje Pooje, Sandesha megha sandesha of Sharapanjara, viraha! of Yedakallu guddadamele, Preethine aa dyavru tanda aasthi namma baalvege of Doorada betta etc.

 

Apart from 4000 film songs, he has also penned lyrics for countless devotional songs. Bhadrapada shuklada chauti is his popular devotional album which had a record sale. Narasimha has also published three novels - Badukina Bairagi, Srimanchakrayana and Sanjegempu. He has also authored an autobiography on Puttanna Kanagal. Vijay was very humble, an introvert and never interfered in anyone’s personal matter.
