Vignesh Shivan Biography

Vignesh Shivan is a successful filmmaker and screenwriter associated with Tamil cinema industry. He is also known as an actor and lyricist. He also directs independent videos. He is a seasonal actor who often acts in his own directorial ventures such as Podaa Podi. He was also seen in the movies, Sivi (2007) and Velaiyilla Pattathari (2014). Naanum Rowdydhaan (2015) is his recent movie as a film director and screenwriter and the movie starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara in the lead roles was a commercial hit. During the shooting of the film, there were gossips that Nayanthara secretly tied knot with the film director in a low key ceremony held in a church at Kerala, though there was no official confirmation.

He was born in Chennai in 1985 and both his parents work in police department. His father is a retired superintendent of police while his mother is a lady inspector. His schooling was done at Mylapore Santhome Higher Secondary School, where Silambarasan was his senior. Vignesh Shivan started off with a short film which he showed to Silambarasan. Impressed by his work, Silambarasan decided to collaborate with Vignesh. Thus Podaa Podi marked his directorial debut in the year 2012. He also scripted the movie and appeared in a cameo role too. He also marked his debut as a lyricist penning the songs - "Hare Rama Hare Krishna", "Maattikittenae" and "Un Paarvaiyilae".

Apart from his own directorial ventures, he has penned lyrics for the movies - Vanakkam Chennai, Virattu, Maari, Aakko, Yennai Arindhaal etc. Frequently worked with Anirudh Ravichander as a lyricist, "Thappa Dhaan Theriyum" of Mari, "Enakenna Yaarum Illaye" of Aako and all the songs except "Neeyum Naanum" of his recent release - Naanum Rowdydhaan are born in this association. The duo also worked together for the singles - Chancey Ille and Avalukkenna.
