Vignesh (tamil Actor) Biography

Vignesh is a film actor from Tamil who played lead roles in a few movies in the late 1990s. After playing supporting roles in movies like Kizhakku Cheemayile, Uzhavan, Pasumpon etc, he moved to lead roles in the late 1990s. Velai (1998), Soori (2003), Ennai Thalatta Varuvala (2003) etc are some of the movies where he played lead roles. He earned critics’ appreciation for Soori, though the movie was a box office failure. He was included in the cast of 1999 film, Suyamvaram which holds the Guinness World Record for casting the most stars in a film and quickest film ever made on world cinema.

His real name is Raja. He hails from Erode of Tamil Nadu, born in the year 1968. He started his film career in the early 1990s, and played supporting roles in Avanga Namma Ooru Ponnuga, Chinna Thayee, Amma Ponnu, Kizhakku Cheemayile, Uzhavan, Manathile Oru Paattu etc. He marked his debut as a lead actor with Chellakkannu in 1995. He was paired with Yuvarani. The film completed 100 days at theatre and was a hit. Since then he played both lead roles and supporting roles in Tamil cinema throughout late-1990s and early 2000s.

His role as protagonist in Soorie was appreciated by critics, though they commended it to be slightly overboard. He had to tonsure his head 70 times for this film. He earlier rejected a similar kind of movie – Sethu (1999) which was later accepted by Vikram, and turned his career forever! Ennai Thalatta Varuvala (2003) was originally started in 1996 with the title – Vennila. The movie originally starred Ajith and Vignesh in the lead role. But the movie suffered financial problems and was shelved. Later when the movie got released in 2003, Ajith who appeared in the film was already a star in Tamil cinema. The movie flopped at box office too. His films - "Ilango" and "Parithi" also failed to make an impact at box office and Vignesh moved to character roles.
