Vidyabhushana Biography

Vidyabhushana is an accomplished singer of Dasa Sahitya. His first audio album was released in 1985. This Carnatic vocalist has made deep research into the works of Haridasa. He has released numerous devotional albums belonging to Kannada and Tulu languages. He received the title of Sangeetha Vidya Nidhi in 1994 and was honoured with a doctorate by Hampi University. With his first album "Dasara Padagalu" he became immensely popular and since then he has released about 200 devotional albums in the past three decades of his music career. "Tanu Ninnadu Jivana Ninnadu" was his 100^th album. He has also done numerous concerts for the past 18 years or so.

He was born in 1952 into a family in Dakshina Kannada district with music background. Currently he is settled in Bangalore with wife and two kids. He took primary lessons in music from his father Govindacharya. Later he took advanced learning from B. V. Narayana Aithal of Udupi, followed by R. K. Srikantan and T. V. Gopalakrishnan. He is the founder trustee of "Bhakti Bharathi Prathistana" through which he spread devotion and music right now. A singer par excellence from Karnataka he is well known for his mellifluous voice. A rare literary clarity with rich "bhava” gives a spiritual touch to his concerts.

He accepted Sanyasa at a very young age. He became the Pitadhipathi of the Kukke Subramanya matha and headed the religious institution for 30 years. During this time he organized many religious, social and cultural events. In 1997 he became a family man. But he is dedicated to the service through the "Bhakti Bharathi Prathistana", an organization founded by him. He made his first tour to USA in the year 1999.
