Vasundhara Raje Biography

Vasundhara Raje is the current Chief Minister of Rajasthan. It’s for the second time she serves as the chief minister of the state. Earlier she served as the 22nd Chief Minister from 2003 to 2008. Also she is the first woman chief minister of the state. Vasundhara Raje was married to Hemant Singh, of the ex-royal Dholpur family in 1972. But the relationship was short lived and the couple separated one year later. She belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party.

Vasundhara Raje was born on 8 March 1953 in Mumbai in the Royal Gwalior family. She is the daughter of Vijayaraje Scindia and Jivajirao Scindia, Maharaja of Gwalior. Prominent Indian politician, and the titular Maharajah of Gwalior, Madhavrao Scindia is her elder brother. Yashodhara Raje, Member of Parliament and active politician is her younger sister. These siblings are members of the prominent Scindia royal Maratha family and active in administration and politics as well. Her son Dushyant Singh has been elected to the Lok Sabha from Jhalawar. Raje’s school education was completed at Presentation Convent, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. She graduated in Economics and Political Science from Sophia College, Mumbai University.

Vasundhara Raje is one of the prominent BJP leaders from Rajasthan. She has been successively elected to parliament for four consecutive times, during the period, 1989 to 2003. She has been elected to Rajasthan Legislative Assembly for four times; three times from her favourite constituency, Jhalrapatan. She has won the Assembly elections during 1985, 2003, 2008 and most recently in 2013. She served as the 22nd Chief Minister from 2003 to 2008 and on 8 December 2013, she sworn in as the 24^th chief minister of Rajasthan. This is her second term. She has been the Leader of Opposition during the period, 2009-2013.
