Vashanth Sellathurai Biography

Vashanth Sellathurai is a Tamil actor and music composer of Sri Lankan origin. His family moved to Denmark following the civil war when Vashanth was only one year old and later his childhood and teens were spent in Denmark. He has played the male protagonist in three of the movies directed by K. S. Thurai, a Tamil author, journalist, film director and screenwriter working in Europe. The movies are Pookkal, Ilampuyal and Uyirvarai Iniththaai. Better known as a music composer, he has been associated with Tamil film industry for 15 years since 2000. Welcome 2000 in the year 2000 marked his career beginning as a music director.

Vashanth Sellethurai was born on 6 March 1984 in Valvettithurai, Sri Lanka. After his family moved to Denmark the following year, his childhood was spent there. He started learning the piano at 7 and keyboard at the age of 9. He was associated with his father’s drama troupe where he was a child artist too. "Welcome 2000″ was his first composition which became popular. He was only 15 when he composed the song. Apart from being a composer he is also a percussionist who plays Keyboard, guitar, bass, drum, tabla, veena etc.

He chose music as his main subject for studies and also completed Electronic Music in a private music school. After graduation, he took PG in Interactive Digital Media in 2012. He released his debut private album "Ilamai Inimai Puthumai" in Denmark in the year 2003. Very soon he got his first break to films as a lead actor and composer. The movie was Pookkal directed by K. S. Thurai. The successful association of the duo began with this film. And later they worked together in Ilampuyal and Uyirvarai Iniththaai also. The film Ilampuyal completed 100 days in Tamil Nadu.
