Vaiyapuri Biography

Vaiyapuri is a popular character artist associated with Tamil cinema. He has excelled in the comic roles. Apart from entertaining crowd through his comic tactics, he has also been associated with television for the past few years. He has appeared as a guest judge on Asathapovathu Yaaru on Sun TV. But currently he is in limelight as he is one of the 15 participants of the reality show on Vijay TV, Bigg Boss Tamil season 1, hosted by megastar Kamal Hassan. He has been associated with entertainment industry since early 1990s, and owns several memorable film roles to his credit.

Vaiyapuri is a native of Theni, Tamil Nadu. His real name is Ramakrishnan. He was born in the year 1968. He started off his career in the early 1990s, and was associated with small roles most of these cases. After struggling with less-significant characters of Flower Decorator, Barber, Bus conductor etc, he got his first noted role through Raman Abdullah in 1997. This big break was given by Balu Mahendra, and there was no turning point after that. Though the movie was a commercial failure, his role got noticed. His initial roles in Raaman Abdhulla and Kaadhal Palli received praise from critics. Since then for the past two decades, he contributed several comic characters to Tamil film industry.

His entry to films too is nothing short of a film story. One day some people of his locality teased him saying he is handsome and looks like Kamal Hassan. Though they were mocking him, Vaiyapuri believed it to be a truth, and very soon he reached Chennai to try his luck in films. Though it took a few years and a struggling period, he finally succeeded. Priyamudan, Jaali, Koteeswaran, Arichandra, Marumalarchchi, Kaadhale Nimmadhi, Kaadhalaa Kaadhalaa, Style, Dhinamdhorum, Conductor Maapillai, Sollamale and Sandhippomaa are among his most notable roles.
