Vadivukkarasi Biography

Vadivukkarasi is a popular character artist associated with south Indian film industry. She concentrates most on Tamil movies and television shows. Appeared in over 350 films, she has also acted in more than 10 television serials belonging to all south Indian languages. She is known for portraying distinct types of roles and has excelled in both positive and grey shaded roles. She has also played lead roles. The legendary film director A. P. Nagarajan, known for mythological films is her maternal uncle.

Vadivukkarasi is a resident of Chennai. She made her film debut with the blockbuster film - Sigappu Rojakkal in 1978. She played a supporting role in the film. It was followed by Enippadigal, where she shared screen space with legendary actress Manorama and both played pivot roles in the film. The movie starred Sivakumar, Shobha and Sathyaraj in the lead roles. Her role got noticed and very soon she established as a noted character artist of Tamil cinema. Kanni Paruvathile marked her debut as a heroine. Yet she gained success as a character artist. Ethanai Konam Ethanai Parvai, Kannil Theriyum Kathaikal, Kelviyum Naane Pathilum Naane etc are some of her roles during her early days before her marriage.

She married a business man in 1986 and the couple had one daughter Padma priya. However they divorced in 1992 and Vadivukkarasi remained active in movies. After marriage she moved to aged roles and played mother roles most. Now busy with television since early 2000s, some of her noted soaps include – Alaigal, Adugiran Kannan, Chellamadi Nee Enakku, Bhavani, Uravugal Sangamam etc. Currently she appears in Kula Deivam since 2015. Bandhukkal Sathrukkal (1993) and Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam (1997) are her Malayalam film works. She acted in Telugu movies, Gundamma Gaari Manavadu, Poramboku etc. Vijay starrer Puli was her last release.
