V. Ravichandran Biography

V. Ravichandran is an actor, director, producer, music director, editor and lyricist of Kannada film industry. He is the son of film producer N. Veerasami. He produces movies under his father's production house, "Sri Eswari Productions". His works excel in technical excellence, quality and selection of subjects. He is popularly known as the "Crazy Star" of Kannada cinema and has completed 20 years in the industry. He is credited with "discovering" the real music talent of Hamsalekha with whom he worked for 50 movies. He has also composed music for a few songs in Hamsalekha’s absence like Ekangi and Aham Premasmi. He won Karnataka State Award for Best Director, Actor and Music Director award for the movie Ekangi. Kannada Rajyotsava Award in 2010, NTR Award in 2013 and Karnataka State Puttanna Kanagal Award for Lifetime Achievements are other noted achievements of Ravichandran.

 

Ravichandran started his film career in the early 1980s as an actor and worked in many movies produced by his father and grandfather. His first movie Khadeema Kallaru was a hit. His first major hit was Premaloka, which starred Juhi Chawla in lead role. Yuddha Kaanda, Ranadheera, Ramachaari, Halli Meshtru, Anjada Gandu are his early hits prior to Premaloka as a leading star. He has been most successfully paired with Khushboo. Though became successful as an actor he was typecasted as a romantic hero, police officer or pop singer. His role as a mentally challenged adult in Ramachaari was one of his critically acclaimed roles.

 

With the movie Premaloka, he became a successful actor as well as director. This movie also established Hamsalekha as a noted composer. He started his own company, Ravi Cine Creation and "Prema Matsara" was the first movie released under this banner. This movie was a commercial failure, followed by another disaster - Kadima Kallaru. However his third movie was one of the biggest hits of the decade – Chakravuya.
