V. Madhusoodhanan Nair Biography

V. Madhusoodhanan Nair is a very popular poet of Malayalam most known for the poem, Naranath Bhranthan. He is also known for reciting Malayalam poems in its best and the particular song - Naranath Bhranthan created great waves all over Kerala due to his reciting style too. It was his first published collection of poems (1992). He won Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1993, for his collection of poems titled Naranathu Bhranthan. He has also received Aasan prize in 2003, Abu Dhabi Malayalee Samajam Sahithya Award in 2011, MadhavaMudra Award in 2013, MadhavaMudra Award in 2013, K. Balakrishnan Award in 1991, for Bharatheeyam and Kunju Pillai Kavitha Award for Poetry in 1986.

 

Apart from Naraanath Bhrantham, he owns numerous popular poems in his name and his recited poems have become a part of many music lovers. Bharatheeyam is his next most popular collection of poems. Cassettes consisting of Madhusoodhanan’s poems have been released where he recites his poems in his singing style. Among all poets of Malayalam, his poems are always in top in cassette selling records. He is a professor by profession and often addressed as Prof. Madhusoodhanan Nair. He is also known as a scholar and loved by Keralites all over the world for the most popular Malayalam poem of 20th century – Naaranath Bhranthan. English translation of the first two lines of his popular poem is – Oh mother who gave birth to 12 kids, among your kids I am the mad man - Naranath Bhranthan.

 

Apart from Naranath Bhranthan, he also owns numerous heart touching and soulful poems in his name. He was born in a small village, Aruviyodu, a hilly area of Neyyattinkara taluk on 25th February 1949. His father, Velayudhan Pillai was a reciter of Thottam Pattu. Madhusoodhanan holds MA degree and has briefly worked in journalism field as well. His other works are Ganga, Saakshi, Akatharu Puratharu, Agasthya Hrudayam, Vaakku, Seethayanam, Nataraja Smriti, Punyapuranam Rama Katha, Gandhi and Ammayude Ezhuthukal.
