Utthara Unni Biography

Utthara Unni is an upcoming actress from Malayalam. She is the daughter of noted artist, dancer and actress Urmila Unni. She is best known for playing parallel lead in Lenin Rajendran’s Edavappati. Vavval Passanga - Tamil in 2012 was her debut movie.  Though the movie was delayed for release, it received positive response from critics and audience. A Venkatesh’s Enaku Vaytha Nanbargal Ippadi is her upcoming movie. She has also appeared in numerous television ads, the most popular ones being Bheema Jewellers, Sri kumaran’s Thanga Malikai, Visrutha Jewellers and Milco icecreams. Most recently in 2014 she received Natyavilasini Award from Nrithyathi Kalakshetram, Bhilai.

 

She was born in 1992 to renowned artist Urmila Unni and A. R. Unni. Utthara’s mother, Urmila Unni, has been instrumental in giving her big break to Mollywood and Kollywood with Edavapathy and Enakku Vaytha Nanbargal Ippadi respectively. Noted Malayalam actress, Samyuktha Varma is her cousin and she is Utthara’s best inspiration too. She loves modelling and acting and she entered the entertainment world as a young model at the age of 16. The ad of Bhima Jewellers in 2010 brought her to limelight and since then she is a popular model for south Indian ads. She completed graduation from SRM University, Chennai.

 

Yaan happened to be her debut movie; but she was dropped. Tamil movie Vavval Pasanga marked her debut. Edavapathi, alongside the Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala is her second movie and Malayalam debut as well. She was a brand ambassador for the company Team Solar, the organization which created a lot of controversies in Kerala later. Currently she pursues BFA in Bharata Natyam at SASTRA University.
