Uttam Singh Biography 
Uttam Singh’s name is among single hit wonder music composers of Bollywood. He is most known for the memorable compositions of 1997 movie – Dil to pagal hai, apart from Dushman, Ghaddar and Pinjar. The movie starring Shah Rukh Khan, Karishma Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in the elading role won many Filmfare and National awards including best music at many award functions. Uttam Singh won his single Filmfare awards for music direction for the movie Dil to pagal hai. He has formerly worked as a violinist and music arranger also. Apart from Dil to pagal hai, his works include Yug purush, Hum tum pe marte hain, Dushman, Pinjar, Farz, The hero: The love story of a spy, Baghban, Pyar diwana hota hai, Ghaddar and Jazbaat. His daughter Preeti Uttam Singh has also sang for a few movies like Yug Purush.
He has done only countable movies in Bollywood. It can be said that after the super success of Dil to pagal hai, he couldn’t make use of his opportunities. He has done the music direction of a Malayalam movie in the year 1999 named ‘Prem Pujari’. Though the movie starring hit pair Kunchakko Boban and Shalini was a flop at box office, songs like Devaragame, Aayiram varnamai and Mathi maunam veene paado were huge hits during the year 1999.
His Bollywood journey began during early 60’s as a violinist. He got attention from public when he played violin for a documentary made by Mohd.Rafi. He had played violin for many music compositions of 60’s and worked with directors like Madan Mohan, S.D.Burman and Roshan. When RD waves started during early 70’s, he became the main violinist of R.D.Burman. Later he entered to another phase of music – music arrangement. His association with Rajshree productions is notable. Along with Jadgish, he has contributed the music industry as an arranger for many blockbuster musical hits like Hum aapke hain kaun, Meine pyar kiya and Pathar ke phool. He has also worked as music assistant before working as an individual music directo. Those movies include Guddu, Pyar ke tarana, Khamosh, Pathar and Mandi.
Throughout his life, he has won awards only once, but has been nominated for his movie Gaddar:Ek prem kadha and Pinjhar for Zee Cine Awards, Sceen weekly award etc. Most recently he has announced his comeback after a break of a decade with the movie – Rajjo.
