Utpal Datta Biography 
Utpal Datta is a famous film critic from Assam who is popular through Bismoi - Assamese magazine, Rangghar- cultural monthly and Roopkar-Cultural Monthly. He is also associated with All India Radio Guwahati where his anthology of articles, 24 Frames (2008) was released as a radio program. This work included articles related to Indian cinema which received Special Jury Mention for writing in Cinema at the National Film Awards. He has also received many awards on radio programs as well as his career as a film critic. He has also edited many books as well as screenplays for other authors. He has also translated a few books like Girish Karnad’s Tuglak and Nagamandala and K Satchidanandan's selected poems - Matra Ata Sparshatei Barashun Diya Megh.
After his Masters in Arts from Guwahati University, he took Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management before starting his career as a journalist. He started his career as a Local Reporter in Natun Asomiya, a weekly newspaper. After a short period, he joined Roopakar as Photographer and Reporter and later joined Sub Editor of Bismoi, one of the popular monthly magazine. He represented Assam as a special correspondent to Cinema India International and now he works in Guwahati radio station as Programme Executive. He has worked for All India Radio at Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Williamnagar and Haflong before joining Guwahati.
He is married to Namrata Datta, a writer and research fellow. Most recently he directed one Impressionistic Short Film - By-Lane2, which was selected for several film festivals including Indian panorama 2013. His first published book was a short play - Ami Kene Aacho. A travelogue Aparupa Andaman, novel Naishajatri and Mozartor Swaralipi - a detective novel are a few more.
