Uthara Unnikrishnan Biography 
Uthara Unnikrishnan is a National award winning child playback singer from South India. Credited as the youngest recipient of this award at the age of 10, she received the award for her rendition of the song "Azhagu” from the 2014 Tamil film Saivam. It’s exactly 20 years later her father P Unnikrishnan walked away with the same award in the male category of the same section for rendering his debut song Ennavale (Kathalan -1994) and "Uyirum Neeye", both composed by Rahman. Since then Unnikrishnan has been one of the leading playback singers of Tamil cinema, though he has sung for other south Indian language films as well. Incidentally, like her father, it is Uthara’s debut recorded song which won National award and she was only 8 years ole when the song was recorded.
She was born on June 11, 2004 to playback singer P. Unnikrishnan, who is also known as a Carnatic singer and Bharatnatyam dancer. Priya Unnikrishnan is her mother. Uthara began learning Carnatic music at the age of six. Sudha Guru was her guru. Though she is learning Carnatic music right now, she is also interested in western music and wants to master both. Currently she is studying in Lady Andal, Chetpet. Apart from “Azhagu” she has also sung a couple of songs.
Her award winning song - "Azhagu” from the 2014 Tamil film Saivam was composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, based on raga Darbari Kanada and the song was pictured on child actress Sara Arjun for the movie with innocence. Its lyrics was written by Na. Muthukumar, who also received National award. Once Uttara accompanied her mother to playback singer Saindhavi's house during Bommala Koluvu (Navaratri) festival, and young Uthara happened to sing a few lines of the same song. A few days she was called by Saindhavi’s husband, G. V. Prakash to record the song. Uthara has never accompanied her father for any concerts. But it was Saindhavi who discovered her talent.
