Usha Chavan Biography

Usha Chavan is a noted Marathi film and television actress, quite noticed for her screen presence with the legendary actor, Dada Kondke. She played his leading lady in quite a few number of Marathi movies. She is married to Dattatray KaduDeshmukh, who was a landlord and owned more than 25 acres of land in Pune.  The couple has one son named  Hridaynath KaduDeshmukh. Usha is associated with film industry since 1964, and known for her appearance in the popular Marathi play, Choravar Mor.

Usha was born and brought up in Pune. She spent most of her lifetime in this city itself. She was born into a poor family who were engaged in loknatya and plays. Born into an artist family, Usha too developed the same stints. Her mother has acted with legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor in many silent movies. Other members of her family too were associated with cinema, in different fields. Known to be one among the best actresses of Marathi film industry, she excelled as a dancer in song sequences also. She has also rendered her voice for a few films. 'Hirwya maadicha jeena awaghad’ of 'Mukkam Post Dhebewadi' is one of her popular songs. She started her film career as a background dancer with Shantaram’s Pinjara.

Her films with Dada Kondke earned her quick recognition among Marathi film viewers. They acted in a series of hit movies together as lead pair and there were rumours of closeness her and Dada Kondke. But the actress has denied the rumours. Ek Hazarachi Note (2014), Samna (1975) and Dekha Pyar Tumhara (1985) are some of her noted film roles. Apart from Marathi films, she has also worked in a few Hindi films like Manoj Kumar starrer, Shirdi Ke Sai Baba in 1977. Usha also owns a film production house named Abhinay Chitra. She has produced two movies namely Dharpakad and Gauracha Navra.
