Udhaya is a Tamil film actor. He is the son of noted producer A. L. Azhagappan and the brother of director A. L. Vijay. Actress Amala Paul is his sister-in-law. He made his debut in Bharathi Kannan's Thirunelveli playing second lead with Prabhu and Karan. He was paired with Vindhya of Sanghamam fame.  Later he portrayed many charcter roles, though couldn’t replicate the success of his brother. He played a pivot role in Vijay starrer Thalaiva, directed by his brother.

He made his film debut in 2000 through Bharathi Kannan's Thirunelveli, which was panned average by critics. The movie was a box office failure as well. He played the second lead in the movie. Kalakalappu was his next release, where he was paired with Vijayalakshmi. Critics commented that he needs improvisation in acting. The movie also featured Napoleon and Jaya Seal in pivot roles. In 2002, only one movie was released - Shakkalaka Baby. In 2004, a dream project Asamy was announced. But the movie got shelved. Then he appeared in a low budget movie -  Ganapathy Vanthachu, which met with the same disaster.

Two of his projects - Kaadhal Jaathi and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa got delayed and the title - Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa was later used by Gautham Menon and delivered a blockbuster hit. In 2011, he hit out atc director Kasthuri Raja stating that he purposefully delays his movies. Now this struggling actor has moved to supporting roles and Thalaivaa is one of the memorable roles he played in the recent times. He is married to Keerthika since 2007. Raa Raa – was his last release as a lead actor which received positive response from critics, though was not a cash earner at box office.
