Tintu Luka Biography

Tintu Luka is an Indian sportswoman specializing in athletics. She holds the national record for 800 meter race in women’s category. The non-profit organization Olympic Gold Quest supports her venture.

 

Tintu Luka was born on 21st April 1989 in Iritty in Kannur in Kerala. Her father is working in gulf country as a mason to support his family with three daughters. Her mother’s name is Lissy Luka and she was a state level long jumper in 1980s. She has one sister named Angel Luka who is student of the Kannur sports division school. Tintu had to walk 5 km daily through the hilly terrain to reach her school and she was encouraged by her school for her sporting talents. She got trained at the Usha School of Athletics at Kinalur near Kozhikode which is run by P. T. Usha.

 

She broke the 15 years old national record of Shiny Wilson in 2010 in the 800 meters event. She won silver medal in the 800 meter race at the Asian Junior Athletics Championship held at Jakarta in Indonesia in 2008. In 800 m event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, she was able to get only the sixth place. She won bronze in the 800 meters event at the Asian Games 2010.

 

She finished up in sixth place in the 800 meters semi-finals at the London Olympics 2012. She was given 2 lakh rupees by the Government of Kerala for her performance and also provided a job.
