Thara Kalyan Biography 
Dr. Thara Kalyan is a famous celebrity on Malayalam television. She is a well-established classical dancer and has anchored several shows on Doordarshan and other channels. She is associated with Doordarshan since early 1990s and one of the most familiar faces for more than two decades. She has also acted in several Malayalam movies. Thara is the daughter of Subbalakshmi, the most popular grandmother of Malayalam cinema at present. Her husband Rajaram is a junior artiste in films, a choreographer and TV editor. Thara is equally verse in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi and teaches students. She has also acted as the judge of reality show - Patturumal on Kairali TV.
She is a resident of capital city, Thiruvananthapuram. Her mother Subbalakshmi is a great artist of both classical singing and dancing and young Tara used to watch her mother since younger days. Thus she got interested in music and dance forms. Her grandmother was also a good singer. But she was born into a conservative Brahmin family. Once she got opportunity to perform at Onam celebrations in the colony she used to stay, which became the turning point of her career. She got encouragement from her parents and her mother was her mentor. She studied under Kalaimamani Rajaratnam and Vinaya Chandran. She trained for 10 years on different classical dance forms - Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Kuchipudi.
Later she joined Sri Mookambika Academy as a teacher at a very young age where she spent 26 years. Currently she owns two dance schools – one at capital city and another one at Kochi. She is active with her live concerts and now her daughter Sowbhagya is also into the same stream.
