Thangar Bachan Biography

Thangar Bachan is a film celebrity and writer associated with Tamil. Apart from being a noted novelist, he is associated with Tamil cinema as a cinematographer, film director, producer and actor. His public speeches have always invited a lot of controversies, particularly those comments related to film actresses like Khushboo. He also created a new controversy questioning the Padma Bhushan award which was given to Kamal Haasan in 2013. He stated that this honour should be given to social service and not for actors for mere acting that doesn’t aid to any social service. He has also slammed down some of the filmmakers in the industry for wasting money for songs at foreign locations and technical extravaganzas, giving less importance to film script.

 
He was born in Pathirakottai, Tamil Nadu in the year 1962. He started his filmy career as a cinematographer in south Indian movies with early 1990s and later moved to direction and writing. Malayalam movie - Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji (1994) was one of his earliest works as a cinematographer and he was mostly associated with Tamil cinema. Kadhal Kottai (1996), Veetai Par Nattai Par (1994), Kaadhale Nimmadhi (1998), Bharathi (2000), Solla Marandha Kadhai (2002) etc are among his noted works as a cinematographer. He has also done one Hindi movie – Sirf Tum (1999), Hindi remake of Kadhal Kottai, a commercial hit he was associated with.

 
2002 movie Azhagi marked his directorial debut. Thendral, Solla Marandha Kadhai, Chidambarathil Oru Appasamy, Pallikoodam, Ammavin Kaipesi and Onbadhu Roobai Nottu are among his noted releases. Now he is busy with his upcoming project, Kalavaadiya Pozhuthugal. The movie stars Prabhu Deva and Bhumika Chawla in the lead roles. He has also published two novels and a few short story collections so far.
