Tarun Mandal Biography

Tarun Mandal is an Indian politician, belonging to the Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist). He represents Joynagar Lok Sabha constituency of West Bengal in the 15th Lok Sabha. He contested as an independent candidate and defeated Nimai Barman of RSP by 53676 votes. He is a doctor by profession anda member of the Medical Service Centre. He has earlier served as the Chief Medical Officer in Kolkata and Nasik. He is an author also and has published several books in Bengali. Maranphande Janswasthya, Swasthya Bikshan, Aamar Katha-on quotations of Saratchandra, Saratchandra-Anupam Sailite Bhaswar Manisa, Saratchandra-Manisa Saili Uttaradhikar, Swasthya Aamar Adhikar and Dr. Nani Guha - Manane Smarane are his published books.

 

Tarun was born on 20 January 1959 in the district of Murshidabad in West Bengal.  While at college he actively participated in college sports like cricket and football. After completion of MBBS, he worked as Junior Medical Officer (Er.) at Medical College, Hospital, Kolkatta for a couple of years - 1985–86. Later he served as Medical Officer, CHS during 1986–90 followed by Sr. Medical Officer, CHS during 1991–1995. He was the Chief Medical Officer of CHS for 6 years during the period, 1996 to 2002. In 2002, he became Chief Medical Officer (Selection Grade), ISPH, Nashik, a post that he held till 2007.

 

He has also participated in disaster management works and socio-medical voluntary organisations and rendered help and free service for the past 32 years or so.  He has published several poetry works in journals in addition to articles on articles on educational and cultural problems, public health awareness and diseases. He has also organized health movements for improvement of medical education in Bengal.
