Tarun Bhattacharya Biography 
Tarun Bhattacharya is a famous santoor player and is a disciple of Ravi Shankar. Santoor (2000), Hypnotic Santoor (2001) and The Exotic Santoor (2010) are among his solo released albums. Essence of Jugalbandi (1993) with Ronu Majumdar, Song of Nature, Flame of the Forest (1992) with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and Ronu Majumdar and Mental Bliss (1998) with Bikram Ghosh are his collaboration projects. He is India’s Global Music Ambassador who has revolutionized Indian classical music and popularized it worldwide.
Tarun Bhattacharya was born on 23 December 1957 in Howrah of West Bengal. Though he got graduated in commerce, he chose music as his career. He took music as his career after a few brief years of professional life. He was initiated to music world by his father Rabi Bhattacharya, who taught him the first lessons of music followed by Pt. Dulal Roy. Later he got opportunity to learn under Pt. Ravi Shankar. Tarun was his only disciple on Santoor of the Maihar Gharana. Now he is one of the most celebrated Indian musicians and often known as India’s Global Music Ambassador. He got opportunity to play santoor at many prestigious concerts held at Royal Albert Hall, Theater- De-La-Viile (France), Apollo Theatre (Spain), Palace-de-beaux (Brussels), Jubilee Auditorium (Canada) and Kremlin (Russia).
He is the music genius who displayed for the first time that one could glide notes at the lower octave in a hammered instrument like Santoor. He created this magic in his santoor in the year 1980. This great musician prefers to call his instrument 'Shata Tantri Veena', the original Vedic name. He has received numerous critics’ awards not only in India but also in foreign countries like US and Germany, where he has a lot of fans following.
