Tapas Relia Biography

Tapas Relia is a muisc director and composer associated with Bollywood and ad world. Relia is known for his ad campaigns with Close-Up Toothpaste, Domino's Pizza, Amaron Batteries, IPL and Mahabharata, which made his a celebrity in the ad field. As a music scorer of Bollywood, he is associated with highly acclaimed Lakshmi (2014), animation film ‘Hanuman (2005), apart from singles of several movies. His background score for Bollywood has earned him huge appreciation.

 

Tapas Relia was born in 1978 in Surat in an influential Gujarati business family. His childhood and teens were spent in Ahmedabad, where he completed his school studies and moved to Mumbai in 1996 for higher studies and to pursue a career in music. He studied Hindustani classical music under Pandit Suresh and piano. He also learnt western classical music and cleared 7 Grades of The Trinity College of Music, London. He taught himself commercial music and music programming. In 2000, he moved to US to study ‘Composing for Film and Multimedia’ in New York University and returned back same year after the completion of the course.

 

He started his career by composing jingles for advertisements. His big break came in the form of animation film ‘Hanuman’ in 2005. He has also composed the music for its sequel, “The Return of Hanuman”, in 2007 for which he earned 'Golden Cursor Animation Award' for best music. His big break to Bollywood films was given by Nagesh Kukunoor, with whom Tapas associated for Mod, Lakshmi and the upcoming flick - ‘Dhanak’. He is equally successful as a background scorer too. “Ferrari Ki Sawaari”, Toonpur Ka Super Hero and Kucch Luv Jaisaa are his noted works.
