Tanvi Shah Biography

Tanvi Shah is a playback singer who is active in Bollywood as well as south Indian cinema. ‘Jai ho’ of Slumdog Millionaire earned her instant success and stardom. Tanvi is the first Indian woman to win the Grammy Award for the lyrics of "Jai Ho". She wrote the Spanish lyrics for the song and shared the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media with A.R. Rahman and Gulzar in the 52nd Grammy Awards. She got her big break to music through A. R. Rahman’s Yuva in 2004, where she sang the dance tapping number, Fanaa pictured on Kareena Kapoor and Vivek Oberoi. She sang its Tamil version as well - "Yakkai Thiri" of Aayutha Ezhuthu. She has performed in many international concerts like Birmingham Arena and the Wembley Arena. She also sings for her own band "Zahrra".

 

She sung many memorable tracks for Rahman including "Gangsta Blues" and Academy award winning track, "Jai Ho", both for the movie, Slumdog Millionaire. "Pappu Can't Dance" for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Title track and "Rehna Tu" of Delhi 6, "Keda Kari" of Raavanan, "Boom Boom Roboda" of Ethiran and title track of Sillunu Oru Kaadhal (Tamil) are her other chartbuster hits with Rahman. She has sung numerous hits for Yuvan Shankar Raja for movies like Biriyani, Goa, Aarambam, Payya, Saroja, Muthirai, Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai etc. She has also sung for Srikanth Deva, Premji Amaren and other music directors.

 

Apart from Tamil and Hindi, she also sings for Arabic, Latin, Spanish and English languages. She recorded maximum songs with Yuvan Shankar Raja and A R Rahman. Shah has been featured in Snoop Dogg's song 'Snoop Dogg Millionaire'. Apart from singing she is into interior designing and has a jewellery line, Exotic Store.
