T. R. Ramanna Biography 
T. R. Ramanna was a film producer and director of Tamil cinema who started off his working as sound engineer with Director K.R. Subramaniyam. His full name is Thanjavur Ranganayaki Ramanna and apart from Tamil movies, he has directed one Hindi film Yuvraj in 1979, one Telugu film Manchi Chedu in 1963 and a few Kannada films. Since his debut in 1953, in a career spanning to about 35 years, he has directed around 30 movies and many of them very successful. He started a new trend with MGR movies, when the actor was asked to take western steps for a song sequence, wearing pant and shirt. The same technique was later used in many MGR films, though the actor was reluctant to do it for the first time. The movie was Periya Edathu Pen.
He was born into a musical family of Carnatic musicians. Noted Tamil film actress, Carnatic singer and dancer - T. R. Rajakumari was his sister. Ramanna was married to Sakkubai, who played a significant role in grooming his career. She has inspired him a lot to become a successful director. Ramanna started his life as a sound recordist in a city studio. Sakkubai knew him since those days, and quite acquainted by his real talents prompted him to try direction, reminding him about his capabilities. Later the couple started three film production companies known as R. R. Pictures, Vinayaga Pictures and Ganesh Pictures.
Vazha Pirandavan in 1953 marked his film debut. Vazhappiranthaval, Periya idaththu Pen, PanakkarakKudumbam, Kulebagavali, Pasam, Kathavarayan, JKoondukkili, thangachchurangam, Naan, Moondrezuthu, Puthumaipithan, Sorgam, Parakkum Pavai, Nadodi and Ennaipol oruvan are among his noted ventures as a producer/director. His wife managed the income and expenditure account for his production companies.
