T. P. Rajeevan Biography

T. P. Rajeevan is a poet, novelist and literary reviewer from Kozhikode, Kerala. He writes both in English and Malayalam and has also published bilingual works. He regularly writes literary reviews for ‘The Hindu’ daily. Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha and KTN Kottoor: Ezhuthum Jeevithavum are his major novels. The murder mystery, Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathira Kolapathakathinte Katha was later made a feature film by filmmaker Renjith and this movie is regarded as a trendsetter of Malayalam cinema. Many of Rajeevan’s works have been translated to other languages including English. He was selected to Ledig House International Writers Residency in 2008, only the second Keralite to receive the honour and the eighth one from the country. He is also a recipient of International Visiting Programme Fellowship by the US Department of States.

Thachom Poyil Rajeevan was born in Paleri, Kozhikode in the year 1952. Rajeevan is married to Sadhana and the couple has two daughters. According to Rajeevan, a writer was born inside him from the dark interior and silence of his maternal home. His childhood was spent in fairy tales and ghost stories told by elders. Hindu rituals, komarams, temples etc have influenced him a lot since early childhood.

‘Kannaki’ and ‘He Who was Gone Thus’ are the poetry collections published in English. He published 3 collections of poetry in Malayalam including Koritharichanal and Vayalkkare Ippolilltha. An essay collection, Athe Akasham Athe Bhoomi and a travelogue, Purappettupokunna Vakku are other noted works. Pranayasatakam is a bilingual collection of one hundred poems on love. Many of his poems have been translated to various languages and serialized in magazines. Rajeevan has participated in many literary programmes such as the Warsaw Poetry Festival, Poland and the Iowa Writing Programme, US.
