T. N. Krishnan Biography 
T. N. Krishnan is a noted violinist from Kerala. He was a Professor of Music at Music College in Chennai and later he was Dean of the School of Music and Fine Arts at the University of Delhi. He has a great talent in interpreting Indian ragas. He is a slave of melody and has the capability to cast music shadows in the souls of listeners. T N Krishnan's sister N Rajam is a famous violin player in Hindusthani tradition. Both these siblings have won Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship for their contributions to Indian art and music. Their father was well known musician - A. Narayana Iyer. Viji Krishnan Natarajan and Sriram Krishnan, children of T. N are well known violinists at present.
T. N. Krishnan was born in Tripunithura, Kerala on 6 October 1928 as the son of A. Narayana Iyer and Ammini Ammal. He learnt music from his father. Later he learnt from Alleppy K.Parthasarathy and Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer. He did his first concert at the age of 8. Later he has accompanied man great Carnatic singers of south India like Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavatar, Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Musiri Subrmania Iyer, Alathur Brothers and Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer. Krishnan went to Chennai in 1942. Sri Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer introduced him to R. Aiyadurai and till now, both their families share a close relation.
T. N. Krishnan has conducted concerts worldwide and he has taught numerous students as well. His students include - Viji Krishnan Natarajan, his son Sriram Krishnan and Charumathi Raghuraman. Krishnan was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1974 and became a fellow of the academy in 2006. He received Padma Shri in 1973, Sangeetha Kalanidhi in 1980 and Padma Bhushan in 1992. He has been awarded with the title "Sangeetha Samraat" from Wisdom International at the 36th Annual Wisdom International Awards Festival.
