Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi Biography 
Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi takes over as 20th chief election commissioner on 20 April 2015. He is an IAS officer of 1976 batch and was working as election commissioner since 2012. He has taken over from HS Brhma who retired on 18th of April. Incidentally, Nasim Zaidi’s tenure as CEC will end in July 2017. The Indian government has not yet filedl up the two vacancies created in the three-member election commission following the retirement of V S Sampath in January and now HS Brahma.
Nasim Zaidi originally hails from Jansath town of Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh. His father Aqueel Ahmad was a police inspector in UP Police who later migrated to Dehradun where Nasim his brother Qumar Ahmad and three sisters were educated. His brother Qumar Ahmad is presently chairman of minority Commission of Delhi was an IAS officer and was main inspirational force for Nasim for qualifying for IAS.
Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi Master's degree Public Administration Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Finance from Indian Institute of Finance and also holds doctorate in Bio-Chemistry. His last postings include International Civil Aviation Organization in Canada and director general of Civil Aviation ministry in New Delhi. He was deputed in Election Commission after his retirement in 2012. Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi is fond of reading literary books, listening to Indian classical music, Gazals.
