Syed Mushtaq Ali Biography 
Syed Mushtaq Ali was a former Indian cricketer who earned the name of an aggressive test batsman. He is the first Indian cricketer to score a test century outside India. He scored his first century against England at Manchester in the year 1936. One of the earliest stars of Indian test cricket, he played active cricket in the pre-independent era. When World 11 team was chosen in the year 1946, he was the only Indian player to be featured in the list. In the 1940s he was at his career peak. He played test matches during the period, 1934-1952.
The famous Twenty20 cricket domestic championship, Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was instituted in his name in the year 2008. The matches are held by BCCI. Government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 1964 for his outstanding contributions to Indian cricket as an all-rounder. He won Wisden Special Award and he scored 4 centuries in his 1936 foreign tour. He played as a middle order batsman and a slow left-arm bowler for his team. He has also played a few matches as an opener. He passed away in 2005 aged 90. Both his son, Gulrez Ali, and his grandson, Abbas Ali have played first class cricket matches.
Mushtaq Ali was a native of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. He was born on 17 December 1914. He was spotted by C K Nayudu at the age of 13. He played cricket for many sports clubs and regional matches, when cricket had just started to become popular in India. A sports legend, he was a shining star of Indian sports in the 1930s and 1940s. He along with Vijay Merchant has played some outstanding partnership innings for team India. He made his test debut on 5 January 1934 and last match on 6 February 1952, both against England. He played 11 test matches and 226 first class matches.
