Syed Abid Ali Biography 
Syed Abid Ali is a former cricketer associated with Indian cricket team. He has been an all-rounder for his team who served as a lower order batsman and a medium pace bowler in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He started his career as a wicket keeper before becoming a bowler. He made his test debut on 23 December 1967 v Australia and played 29 test matches for India. He made his ODI debut with England in 1974 and has played only matches, with the last match played on 14 June 1975 v New Zealand. He also served as a cricket coach for the junior team of Hyderabad for a few years and currently resides in California working as a coach at the Stanford Cricket Academy.
He was born in Hyderabad in 1941. In 1956, got impressed by his fielding he was picked up by Hyderabad Schools. He continued with domestic cricket and got opportunity to reach Hyderabad junior team in 1958-1959 season. He also got opportunity to play for Ranji trophy. He was given a job at State Bank of Hyderabad. In 1967 he was picked up by National selectors for India’s tour against Australia followed by New Zealand. He replaced team captain M. A. K. Pataudi following an injury, marking his international debut on 23 December 1967 with Australia. He played an outstanding innings in his first debut match.
He scored 33 in both innings and took 6 wickets for 55 in his debut test match, which was indeed a great performance in the late 1960s when cricket has just started gaining popularity. He was made the opener of the team in the third test and he scored valuable 47 runs. He also scored 81 and 78 runs in the 4th and final test cementing his position in Test cricket. He played 29 test matches for India scoring 1018 runs with 6 50s. He played his last test match on 15 December 1974 v West Indies.
