Suvi Biography

Suvi Suresh, also known as SuVi is a singer and song writer from California of Indian (Kerala) origin. She frequently works with the ace composer A. R. Rahman for many Indian and international projects. Indian projects include the Bollywood films - Highway, Blue, Ghajini and Raavan, while international projects are Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours, Million Dollar Arm etc. As a playback singer of Indian movies, she has sung for many leading heroines belonging to Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Oriya and Hindi language films.

 

She has worked with veteran composers such as Ouseppachan and Ilayaraja to the latest Harris Jayaraj, Deepak Dev, and Yuvan Shankar Raja. She was one among the team members of S5 (band), which included the members -  Benny Dayal, Anaitha Nair, Suvi Suresh, Bhargavi Pillai and Arjun Sasi. The band was the winner of the first SS Music voice hunt competition and later became the first South Indian Pop Band, to be signed with Sony BMG. Their single album, ‘Isai’ with 8 songs was released in 2005. Four of the five band members were of Malayali origins. After one year of contract, the band members split and pursued their individual journey.

 

Her birth name is Swetha Suresh. She was born in Thrissur, Kerala on 26 September 1987. Her father worked in Chennai and for the same reason her childhood days were spent in Chennai. She also did a year of schooling in Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Kerala, where her grandparents were staying. She completed graduation in Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology from Ethiraj College for Women in Chennai. She dreamt to become a forensic scientist. But destiny was something else and she became a popular singer. During her childhood she was interested in dancing and sports also.

 

She first watched Michael Jackson on MTV in 1992 and got attracted to western music. Meenakshi Mani was her first music teacher. She used to write poems at since childhood. Entered film industry in 2008, she sang more than 100 songs, when she realized her talent to write lyrics also and in the year 2012 she moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music in an international platform. Kodaana Kodi from Saroja and Aska Laska from the movie Nanban are among her noted Tamil film hits.
