Suresh Chatwal Biography

Suresh Chatwal was a popular character artist associated with Bollywood films and television. This veteran actor made his acting debut in the year 1969 with the Bollywood film, 'Rakhi Rakhi', and slowly gained attention. He stayed in Bollywood till 2010 and was last seen in the film, Nakshatra. Thus he spent more than 4 decades in the Hindi film industry. He passed away on May 28, 2016 after prolonged illness. He is equally popular in television scene. The actor is best remembered for his role as Commissioner Suraj Agnihotri in the popular investigation series on Sony Television Network, CID.

 

Though he was associated with Bollywood since late 1960s, he struggled over the years to get good roles and lost good ones towards the end of his career. Most of his memorable roles belong to the movies to 1990s and 2000s, and some of his noted appearances include - 'Karan Arjun', 'Koyla' and 'Munna Bhai MBBS'. He excelled in the role of drunkard and other grey shaded roles on silver screen. He mostly played negative roles on silver screen throughout 1970s to 1990s. He played a common man in most of his films.

 

He played Salman Khan's father role in "Karan Arjun” in 1995. His role of Dhukhiya in Doordarshan's "Nukkad” is extremely popular. He was away from the limelight for the last few years and his death was informed by his son Yaman Chatwal in a statement on 29th May 2016, one day after his death. Suresh Chatwal succumbed to his ongoing illness. Chatwal’s ‘FIR’ co-star Kavita Kaushik posted her condolences on twitter. This actor is known for his full energy and old filmy stories, twitted Kavita.
