Sunny Varkey is the founder and chairman of the global advisory and educational management firm Global Education Management Systems the largest private owned kindergarten to class 12 education in the world.
GEMS the Global Education Management Systems has a network of over 130 schools world wide spread over in fourteen countries. Global Education Management Systems has its headquartered in Dubai with branches in India, Saudi Arab, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore, Qatar, Egypt, Kenya, Switzerland, and the United Arab Emirates.
Sunny Varkey is chairman of the umbrella business organization known as Varkey Group. Sunny is also the founder and trustee of the philanthropic Varkey Foundation. Varkey is also a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador since 2012. Varkey has very strong spiritual values that made him interested in philanthropy. Sunny started the Varkey Foundation as the philanthropic arm of his educational organization in December 2010. His foundation has understanding with UNESCO for girls' education in Lesotho and Kenya. Sunny donated $1,000,000 for the purpose of girls' education.
Vakey founded Welcare, a healthcare consultancy and management venture that help establish hospitals and clinics for the welfare of Emirates' Healthcare in the year 1984 that was purchased by Mediclinic International in 2012. The proceeds of the sale allowed Varkey to work better on education sector.
