Sunitha Upadrashta Biography

Sunitha Upadrashta is a playback singer, anchor and dubbing artist of Telugu cinema. She is regarded as one of the top female voices of the industry. She is the only singer who also works as a dubbing artist and has dubbed for almost 750 films in 15 years. She started her career in the year 1995 with the movie, Gulabi. Her first film song is ‘Ee Vela Lo Neevu’ written by Sirivennela Sitaramasastri, for the movie Gulabi which became immensely popular. She has sung more than 3000 songs of which a few of them belong to Tamil. Most recently she won the title of Super Singers 7 and has received opportunity to perform at the Tirumala Brahmotsavalu. In 2011, she won Lata Mangeshkar Best Singer Award.

 
Sunitha was born on May 10, 1978 in Guntur as the daughter of Upadrasta Narasimha Rao and Sumathi. She started learning music at the age of 3 and has participated in many musical concerts at a younger age receiving several prizes. Her film career started in the year 1995 with the movie Gulabi. She has won Nandi awards numerous times. She is equally successful as a playback singer and a dubbing artist. She received Nandi awards for best dubbing artist for the movies – Jayam (2002), Anand (2004), Sri Rama rajyam (2012) and Pothe ponni (2005). Her popular works include – Tagore for Jyothika, Sri Rama rajyam for Nayanthara, Anand and Godavari for Kamalinee Mukherjee, Indra for Sonali Bendre, Okariki Okaru for Aarti Chhabria, Nenunnanu for Shriya, Choodalani Vundi for Soundarya and Happy days for Tamanna.


Sunitha won Nandi awards for best female playback singer for the songs - Athade Oka Sainyam (2003), Godavari (2006) and Anthahpuram (2010). She has won Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer – Kannada for the year 2010. The song was "O Priyathama" from the movie, Cheluveye Ninne Nodalu. She has received multiple nominations at Filmfare for Telugu and Kannada playback singing category.
