Sumit Vats Biography

Sumit Vats is a journalist turned actor, now busy with television shows. He shot to fame playing the male lead in the popular series ‘Hitler Didi’ on ZEE TV. He was seen in the role of Rishi Kumar /Ricky Diwan, during the period 2011-2013. He made his television debut through 2010 show, Kashi – Ab Na Rahe Tera Kagaz Kora followed by 12/24 Karol Bagh, Surya The Super Cop and Mukti Bandhan, before he bagged the pivot role in ‘Hitler Didi’. He was later seen in the lead role Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai as Chintu Chautala Shaktishali aired on Big Magic, the show which ended abruptly.

 

He donned three different avatars in Zee TV’s Hitler Didi and was nominated for Best Actor in a Lead Role – Jury award 2013 at Indian Telly awards, apart from ‘Fresh New Face – Male 2012 ’, though he couldn’t win both. But he shared Favourite Nayi Jodi award with Rati Pandey at Zee Rishtey Awards 2011. He became a part of the comedy series, Ajab Gajab Ghar Jamai as Chintu Chautala Shaktishali, the lead role, where he shared screen space with veteran actress Himani Shivpuri. Among the four son-in-laws of the house, he played the youngest one.

 

Sumit was born on 17 March 1981 in Delhi. He spent his early days in Delhi itself where he completed his education. He completed graduation from Bhagat Singh College, Delhi and his post-graduation in journalism from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. After his Master’s degree he started his career as a journalist in a new channel. He handed over his first salary to his mother. However he pursued his passion of acting very soon and landed to television shows. Sumit has been associated with theatre earlier and has done both serious and comic roles.
