Sumeet Nijhawan Biography

Sumit Nijhawan is an Indian actor known for supporting roles in Bollywood. "Raja Natwarlal", "Dishkiyaaoon", "Maazii", “Phas Gaye Re Obama”, “Contract”, “Sarkar Raj”, “Jannat 2” and "Jism2” are some of noted roles. Among these films, Jannat 2, “Phas Gaye Re Obama”, Dishkiyaaoon and Raja Natwarlal are among his prominent roles. In 2013 he played his first lead role – Maazii, directed by debutant Jaideep Chopra. His role earned him IBN Live Best Independent Film 2013 award. The movie won many awards and nominations including a nomination at Best Film category for Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2014. He is also a writer associated with the industry.

 

Sumitwas born and brought up in Meerut. He started his career as a model, and has endorsed products like Mitsubishi, Globus and Larsen & Toubro. He holds a Masters in International Business from the Delhi School of Economics. Yet he got drawn towards the fashion and acting world. 2004 film Girlfriend marked his debut in a supporting role. The movie on the theme of lesbianism bombed at box office, and invited controversies as well. It was followed by a few supporting roles in Tum... Ho Na!,Aag, Contract, Sarkar Raj etc. His work got noticed for the first time through RGV’s Contract, and earned him appreciation also. Phas Gaye Re Obama also proved to be a major break.

 

He played the grey shaded role of Sarfaraz in Emraan Hashmi starrer Jannat 2, followed by Randeep Hooda's friend in Jism 2. Both these roles gave him enough exposure. Since then he is quite active in the film scene and has also played one film in a lead role – Maazii. He played a gangster, Iqbal Khaleefa in Dishkiyaoon. He played a cop Mr. Singh in Emraan Hashmi starrer Raja Natwarlal.
