Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi Biography 
Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi was an Indian politician from Hyderabad and a prominent figure of the regional Muslim party - All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. Owaisi served as the president of the party till his death in 2008. After his death its presidency was took over by his son, Asaduddin Owaisi who is also a prominent figure of the party and currently serves as MP. Salahuddin Owaisi, is also known as “Salar-e-Millat”. He was hugely supported by Muslim community of Andhra Pradesh and it was able to influence the election results of the state as well. Members from Owaisi family have been arrested several times for making inflammatory speeches.
He was born in Hyderabad in 1931. He got involved with politics at a younger age. MIM was first founded in 1927 by a group of Islamists of Hyderabad as a socio-religious organisation and later it changed to a religio-political outfit by Nawab Bahadur Yar Jung and Qasim Rizvi. Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi stepped into politics after his father was jailed. He got active in the late 1970’s and contested for the first time in 1978. He won 1978 Assembly Election as independent party candidate in Charminar constituency. He retained his power in the next assembly elections as well, securing more votes and gradually the party gained strength in the state.
In 1984, the party made historic win in the parliament election and continued the winning stream in 1984, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998 and 1999 general elections successively from Hyderabad constituency. He also served as the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen till his death. After his death, his sons, Akbaruddin Owaisi and Asaduddin Owaisi got actively involved in party activities.
